Trail Rides

(These pictures are Thumbnails, please double-click on each picture to see the full version.  Press your browser's 'back' button to return to this page)

A Trail ride is a ride where we stay away overnight as opposed to returning to the centre allowing us to venture further into the more remote areas of the Cambrian mountains giving us the opportunity to some of the most dramatic scenery in the UK.
Due to unpredictable weather conditions and length of day, we only run trail rides from early May to late September.
Your luggage will be transferred by us and waiting for you on your arrival.

Before we are able to run a trail ride there has to be a minimum of six people booked in.  Therefore if you not coming in a group you can either start a trail ride up yourself, which we will then endeavour to fill up to the required number or join one that has already been started.

As we spend up to six hours in the saddle per day (plus breaks) and the terrain is slightly more demanding you must be a fit and competent rider before you consider a trail ride.

You have the choice of staying at one of two locations:

Two Day Trail Rides

This will give you a brief outline on the different routes and itinery for the two days

Day 1

We set off at 10:30am and ride to a remote hill farm called Nant-yr-ast where we eat our lunch.
Then we continue through forestry and open hill until we reach our chosen desination between 5-6pm.  Once the horses are turnrd out into the field, there will then be a  welcome cup of tea  and the chance to relax before dinner is served.

Day 2
After a hearty breakfast your horses will be ready and waiting for you to start your ride home at about 10-10.30 am.

There are two options for the second day.

Mynydd Mallaen

Riding up from the village of Cilycwm we climb up onto Mynydd Mallaen. This beautiful mountain is one of the dominant features of the area. It is wild and offers spectacular views all the way across. At the other side we join the forestry and ride down into the delightful village of Caio were we can guarantee a warm welcome from the Landlords of the Brunant Arms, one of the best pubs in Wales. After lunch we head back to Cae Iago, arriving about 4-4.30pm (depending on how long we stay in the pub!).

  • Craig Pysgotwr
  • We ride back over the top of Craig Pysgotwr, where we get some incredible 360-degree views; passing ancient standing stones as we go.  We stop for lunch when we choose and then have another short break at Llyn Y Gwaith mountain lake before riding home down the valley.
